Location
Thom Building, Department of Engineering Science
Date & Time
Wednesday 24 Apr 2019 10:00AM

Optics and photonics are major enabling technologies that underpin scientific and technological advances in fields as wide ranging as information technology, energy, metrology, manufacturing, security, and healthcare. The scope and use of photonics in the 21st century, over 50 years after the invention of the laser, is vast and continually expanding, as basic research in the generation, manipulation, interaction, and detection of light fuels scientific discovery, the creation of novel applications, and the invention and engineering of new materials and devices for use in our everyday lives.

Researchers at the University of Oxford are at the forefront of developments, from quantum photonics and metrology to super-resolution optical imaging, biophotonics, ultrafast spectroscopy, sensing, and laser processing.

The 2019 Oxford Photonics Day will have a range of speakers including:

Prof. Felix Hofmann, Department of Engineering Science

Prof. Madhavi Krishnan, Department of Chemistry

Prof. Robert Taylor, Department of Physics

Prof. John Heffernan, University of Sheffield

Prof. Thomas Krauss, University of York

Prof. Lapo Bogani, Department of Materials
