Harry Anderson FRS

Professor of Chemistry

Our group does research in the areas of molecular materials synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, molecular recognition, polymers and dyes. All work is directed towards the design and creation of new molecular materials with useful optical, electronic or biomedical properties. We believe that a better understanding of the relationship between molecular structure, molecular function and macroscopic properties will give us the ability to build functional materials on the molecular scale.

Recent photonic related projects include the synthesis and characterisation of voltage sensitive dyes for probing cell membranes; the development of new chromophores for dye-sensitsised solar cells; and the development of porphyrin-based drugs for photodynamic therapy (PDT) via two-photon excitation.
