Professor Ruy Sebastian Bonilla leads the Electronic & Interface Materials Laboratory at Oxford, investigating how interfaces between electronic materials control charge transport, device performance, and stability. His lab works on advanced nanolayer materials, seeking to engineer interfaces that optimize electronic, ionic and optical behaviour in devices ranging from solar cells to quantum and neuromorphic components. A prominent focus is on passivation nanolayers (e.g. K-ion charged SiO₂) that reduce recombination losses in silicon photovoltaics, as well as understanding degradation modes at contacts and interfaces. His group also models and develops interfaces in tandem solar, perovskite/silicon devices, transparent electrodes and energy-efficient computing devices.
